Vaccination Thoughts

Vaccines

There are so many questions about vaccines old and new. We attempt to offer tons of information both spoken and written to help parents understand the complex vaccination schedule. One of the common questions asked recently regards the potential “COVID-19” vaccine.

“Will we give it?”

“Is it safe?”

“Will it be effective?”

The current vaccination schedule is based on historic, scientifically validated information. No debates needed as that isn’t the intent of this post. History supports the benefits of such vaccines to our modern world.

Preferably, a new vaccine should:

  • Demonstrate effectiveness in the proposed population
  • Based on data from multiple scientific sources
  • Preferably by multi-national centers
  • With a proven safety profile (see points above)

Should a “COVID-19” vaccine come to the market in the near future, it would need to have demonstrated effectiveness and safety by multiple centers. Only then will we even consider offering it to our patients. (Honestly, if I’m not comfortably giving it to my girls, I’m not giving it to my patients.) More to follow...
